Names: The “whos” of your business
QuickBooks works with five kinds of name entities:
- Customers
- Customer:jobs
- Vendors
- Employees
- Other Names.
Names are generally in two or three forms. One form is what you see looking at the list. The other form goes on documents sent out to customers, vendors, or employees. In later versions the records all have fields, such as the customer
Bill To field, that are printed on documents. The customer list can easily mix people (last name first) with companies.
An
Other Name can be converted to a customer, vendor, or employee name. Once done, this conversion is final. Names of the other kinds cannot be changed.
Employee names are discussed in the Chapter 12.
QuickBooks displays the names as separate lists, but they are actually all in one list.
