What QuickBooks Pro 5 Timer Does
QuickBooks Pro 5 Timer operates in conjunction with
QuickBooks Pro 5, to collect time worked by XE "Timer:QuickBooks Pro 5" employees or vendors, as a source for paying the employee, and/or billing a customer. It can run on any or all of the (Windows) computers in an office, including the computer running
QuickBooks. This is done by transferring data files between
QuickBooks and Timer. Timer can be used like a stop watch, actually counting off the time recorded, as a timesheet taking entry of time worked, or as a combination of the two.
QuickBooks exports a listing of customer:jobs, vendors, employees, service items, and classes (if used) to Timer. Timer loads this into its user data file XE "user data
file:Timer" XE "data
file:Timer" .
Time activity records are then generated on Timer, by collecting the following information: { Barbara: don’t shoot ... these are not bullets. Meaning of * is explained below }
* Date when the hours were worked
* Who worked the hours (vendor XE "vendor" or employee XE "employee:timer" )
* Customer XE "customer:Timer" billable for this time (if any)
* Service item XE "service item:Timer" for billing
* Class (if used)
Hours and minutes worked
Notes
Change of any * field constitutes a new “activity”.
Note that this list does not include payroll items. If used for payroll, this will have to be supplied in
QuickBooks when the activities are imported.
The activity records XE "activity records:Timer" are periodically (usually weekly) collected into files, which are transferred from the Timer to
QuickBooks Pro 5. These imported records are identical to activity records generated within the time tracking function of
QuickBooks Pro, and can be used for billing and payroll in the same manner.
